Student expected to be charged in deadly Cyberjaya hit-and-run

Authorities are expected to charge a 23-year-old Libyan student in connection with the hit-and-run death of Wan Amirah Wan Alias, at Cyberjaya’s popular Shaftesbury Square two weeks ago.

Caught on CCTV camera, Wan Amirah can be seen crossing the street when a car careens out of control from one side of the road to the other, ultimately striking her and causing serious injuries to would lead to her death.

Two charges are expected in the case; one involving causing grievous hurt via a dangerous weapon or means, and another drug-related offense.

During the accident, three other students, two from Yemen, and a Sabahan woman, were in the car with the suspect. While they were initially arrested by police, they were later released; however, the Yemeni students will face drug-related charges. All four attend a international university in Cyberjaya.

Many netizens have been left reeling after the shocking October 17 accident, saying that reckless driving has long been an issue in Cyberjaya, a popular town for both university students and tech companies.

Having been left on the road side, bystanders called emergency services and Wan Amira was later taken to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries hours later in the early morning of October 18.
