Malaysian Muslim youth group launches anti-LGBT Facebook profile photo campaign

The backlash to the landmark United States Supreme Court decision to legalise same-sex marriage continues, and one such reaction has sparked off in Malaysia.

The National Muslim Youth Association (Pembina) kicked off a campaign decrying the LGBT movement’s civil rights victory – and its celebration online by community members and social supporters – by asking Facebook users to fly their anti-rainbow flag proudly.

A direct response to the Facebook-facilitated rainbow-accented profile photo campaign to celebrate the US Supreme Court decision, Pembina is now urging its supporters to put up the same rainbow-tinted profile photos … only crossed out, and captioned with #BeliaTolakLGBT (#YouthsAgainstLGBT).

As far as we can tell, Pembina isn’t providing a script or web app to facilitate a crossed-out rainbow profile photo the way Facebook did. So, the easiest way for a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender-hating Malaysian netizen to join the campaign would be to get a Facebook-made #LoveWins profile photo, modify that with Photoshop or something, and then reupload your modified profile picture onto Facebook.

(After Facebook has registered you as a supporter of the global LGBT movement.)

We don’t know about you, but that sure sounds like a lot of work just to let the planet know you’re intolerant. But hey, we suppose for some people all those steps are a lot easier than letting other people live their lives. Right?
