A Malaysian woman just took the Bernie Sanders meme to another level by baking it into a  kumquat cake roll for Chinese New Year.

KL-based baking instructor Keem Ooi, 50, better known as “Keempossible” on Instagram, was so inspired by the many memes of the American senator while he was at last week’s inauguration for U.S President Joe Biden that she decided to draw the grumpy-looking 79-year-old on a cake. She even included his mittens and green jacket on the festive goodie, complete with floral motifs and designs of mandarin oranges to mark the occasion.

“It took just an hour and half to complete the cake. It was my first attempt,” Ooi told Coconuts today, two days after posting a photo of the Bernie cake online. Ooi is an expert in making artful cakes, and has created cakes themed after Studio Ghibli’s Totoro and Pokemon’s Pikachu.

“Once the roll cake is done, I will paint on it using edible food gel for enhancement,” she added.

Unfortunately, the Bernie Sanders cake is not for sale, Ooi told Coconuts, neither is she accepting anymore Chinese New Year cake orders. Her specialty this year is a cheesecake themed after the upcoming year of the ox.

She said: “I have always loved cute characters all my life even till now though I’m already in my fifties.”

Well, our guess is that Sanders has been added to her list of cute characters.
