We’re looking for a Bangkok Food & Lifestyle Editor

Reports to Coconuts Media’s Managing Editor: Food, Lifestyle, Travel


Grow the audience, reputation, and quality of Coconuts Bangkok’s Food & Drink and Lifestyle sections, while also supporting growth of Coco Travel and the Food & Drink and Lifestyle sections of Coconuts city sites across the region.

Responsibilities include:

– Writing entertaining, useful, and stylish content for the Food & Drink and Lifestyle sections of Coconuts Bangkok, as well as travel content for sister site Coco Travel

– Representing Coconuts Bangkok at local F&B and arts & culture events, including (but not limited to) restaurant launches, bar openings, menu tastings, art exhibits, lifestyle festivals, music & nightlife events, etc., and quickly turning around smart, honest takes on the experience through editorial reviews and/or social media recaps

– Generating ideas for more in-depth, original stories and longform features as related to Food, Lifestyle, Travel topics, either researching and writing the features yourself, or finding freelancers to commission for the story

– Scheduling and managing your content to meet daily publishing quotas, on deadline, and according to the targets set in the Food, Lifestyle, Travel editorial plan, as laid out by the Managing Editor: Food, Lifestyle, Travel

– Social media management; beyond daily posting duties, this also involves working in tandem with the rest of the Food, Lifestyle, travel editorial team to plan and execute bigger-picture social media strategy

– Supporting the Managing Editor in managing Coco Travel, the Coconuts Directory, and the Food & Drink and Lifestyle categories of all eight Coconuts city sections covering Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Jakarta, KL, Yangon, and Bali, as needed

The ideal candidate will have: 

– A portfolio of published work, preferably in similar Food, Lifestyle, and Travel content, though experience with other topics and types of writing or content production will also be considered

– Passion for food, lifestyle, and travel stories; knowledge of (or, at least strong curiosity and enthusiasm for) the cuisines and cultures of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong

– A contrarian spirit and the desire to do things differently

– Extensive social media savvy; this means knowing how to best produce, publish, and optimize reach of posts

– A strong visual aesthetic and innate drive to discover new, great, and under-the-radar dining, nightlife, arts and lifestyle venues or events

– Outgoing personality type; you’re into socializing and networking, whether it’s at a bar or a press conference

– Skilled writer and reporter (in English); Thai nationals are encouraged to apply, as native English speaking is not a requirement

– An eagle-eyed attention to detail
