Many Indonesian rivers are terribly polluted with trash, and there’s literally no one else to blame but the irresponsible humans who fill them with filth.
The men in this viral video are, though, take it to an entirely new level of thoughtlessness. The video, taken yesterday in Wonosobo, Central Java, shows the two unloading a truckload of trash contained in sacks and tossing them over a bridge.

The person who filmed the large-scale littering can be heard repeatedly reminding them not to throw their garbage into the river, saying, “All of Indonesia already knows, you shouldn’t throw your garbage in the river.” Even so, the garbage men did not heed his words and continued to go about their business.
After going viral, the video caught the attention of the local police.
“We will find the vehicle and those people because they polluted our river. We will also find who instructed them (to litter). We have identified them and we will continue to investigate,” said Wonosobo Police Chief Muhammad Ridwan, as quoted by Detik yesterday.
Thankfully, there are still many ongoing efforts to clean up Indonesia’s trash-clogged rivers, such as the incredible work done by Jakarta’s Sanitation Department on the previously filthy Ciliwung River (now clean enough to hold a wedding and for hand fishing). But no matter how much work goes into cleaning Indonesia’s waterways, they will always need cleaning if the citizens themselves treat rivers like a giant trash bin.
