Dramatic footage of a cop saving a woman from attempted suicide in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta has gone viral today showing the officer heroically risking his life to grab the woman who was contemplating jumping off a ledge.

On Monday morning, the Kelapa Gading Police received a call about a woman, identified by her initials BMA, who was sitting perilously on the ledge of a multi-story car park in an office tower. Upon arrival at the scene, officers first tried to talk BMA to safety.

“The team, which was led by AKP Syam Ramdhan, tried to communicate and negotiate with the victim but they were met with a dead end,” said Kelapa Gading Police Chief Commissioner Arif Fazzlurahman, as quoted by Kumparan yesterday.

The officers quickly reacted and attached a harness to AKP Syam Ramdhan, head of the Crime Investigation Unit of the Kelapa Gading Police, who then grabbed BMA to safety as shown in this video:

Officers later calmed BMA down and she was eventually picked up by her family.

According to a witness, BMA was involved in a heated argument with an employee in the building before she went out to sit on the ledge.

If you or anybody you know is having suicidal thoughts and urgently needs to talk to somebody, you can call 119 to reach the Ministry of Health’s mental health hotline.
