Video: Abused baby orangutan Budi now on the road to recovery and making new friends

Baby Budi with his new friend Jemmi

Remember the sad story of Budi, the baby orangutan who had been kept in a tiny chicken cage by an owner who fed him nothing but condensed milk for nearly a year?

Late last year, Budi was saved by members of the NGO International Animal Rescue (IAR) in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, and brought back to IAR’s Orangutan Rescue Center.

As you can see in the below video, when Budi arrived at the Rescue Center, he was still very weak and traumatized by his time spent in captivity.

But thanks to the expert and loving care he has received over the last few months, Budi is already doing much better. After receiving several months of physiotherapy, he was able to climb for the very first time.

Budi is also slowly being socialized with other orangutans. He recently got introduced to Jemmi, another orphaned baby orangutan, and their first meeting is absolutely adorable.

It looks like the two of them quickly became the best of friends.

More recently, Budi and Jemmi were introduced to some of the other orangutans at the Rescue Center’s baby school for the very first time.

It may be many years before Budi is ready to be reintroduced back into the wild. But at least it’s good to know that he’s now getting the love and care he was denied for so long.
