Two local tourists from Tebet, South Jakarta, were arrested after they were found to be using or in possession of marijuana when they vacationed in Tidung Island in Jakarta’s Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu).

The two tourists, identified by the initials YD (33) and RK (24) were arrested on March 14.

“They were arrested after testing positive for drug use and 0.2 grams of marijuana was found inside a guitar,” said Susilo, head of the Kepulauan Seribu Police, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

The police conducted urine tests for all Pulau Tidung visitors on March 13 and March 14. YD, who arrived with RK and four others, tested positive for marijuana use, whereas the other five in the group tested negative.

The police then inspected their accommodation and found marijuana hidden inside RK’s guitar.

Susilo predicts YD and RK will have to undergo drug rehabilitation because they only consumed drugs for personal use and did not smuggle or spread the drugs commercially.
