Transjakarta bus crashes into 8 motorcycles, 3 cars in Mampang

According to witnesses, at about 7:45 am this morning, a Transjakarta bus left a fueling station located near Jalan Mampang Prapatan in South Jakarta and directly entered a busy intersection without slowing down or stopping.

The bus ended up blocking a stream of vehicles that was already heading through the intersection. In the ensuing chaos, 8 motorcycles and 3 cars crashed into or were hit by the bus. Several of the motorcycles went under the bus.

Incredibly, there were no deaths reported on the scene, although eight people were taken to several nearby hospitals.

As often happens after bus accidents in Jakarta, the bus driver abandoned his car and immediately ran away from the scene of the accident (likely due to fears that an angry mob would beat him to death, as often happens after bus accidents in Jakarta). He was later arrested by the police.

Other Transjakarta drivers told Kompas that the driver involved in the accident had only been on the job for two days.

“He was new, he had just worked two days, I don’t know his name,” another Transjakarta driver, Minen, told Kompas
