The neighborhood of Setiabudi, South Jakarta was rocked by the discovery of human remains that fell from the sky this afternoon, which police say came from a suicide victim.
According to witnesses, the victim’s leg fell on a busy alley behind Ambasador Mall, which is filled with food hawkers. People speculated that the leg had come from a mutilated murder victim, and that it may have been tossed from the apartment building above.
Police say, after their initial investigation, that the mutilation theory was incorrect and that the leg came from a tenant who jumped from their apartment unit on the 23rd floor in an apparent suicide.
“So when the victim jumped, they landed on the balcony on the sixth floor. From there, the leg came off and fell on the alley with the food hawkers,” Setiabudi Police Chief Yogen Heroes Baruno said today.
Yogen said the victim, who is identified by their initial A, was 27 years old. The police are communicating with their family to establish a motive for the apparent suicide.
