After a few months of temporary suspensions in an effort to curb coronavirus transmission, the airport trains in Jakarta and Medan are up and running again from today onward.

PT Railink, the operator of both cities’ airport trains, temporarily suspended their operations in late July, when Indonesia saw a significant spike in COVID-19 cases driven by the Delta variant.

Launched in late 2017, the Jakarta Airport trains transport passengers between Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang and downtown Jakarta in 55 minutes, cutting driving time by half or more. They run 20 times from 5.37am to 6.49pm daily.

Meanwhile, the Kualanamu airport train in Medan, which was launched in mid-2013, connects the Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang regency to downtown Medan in approximately 45 minutes.

PT Railink and Indonesian train company PT KAI are marking their anniversaries along with the reopening by offering promotions on a number of routes, with fares starting from IDR5,000 (US$0.35) for one-way trips in September and October, options of which you can see here. The promo rates are applicable for purchases from any online and offline ticketing channels, including the Railink website, third-party ticketing apps, and ticketing machines at the train stations.

“We hope that the reopening of the airport trains with the promo fares can increase public enthusiasm toward public transportation to support their daily mobility, while still implementing health protocols,” PT Railink president director Anggoro Triwibowo said in a statement
