Need to apply for a SIM (driver’s license) or get yours renewed? Starting tomorrow, you can do so from the comfort of your own home with the launch of a new app called SINAR (SIM Presisi Nasional).

The National Police Traffic Corps is launching SINAR tomorrow to enable the public to obtain SIM A (for cars) and SIM C (for motorcycles) using just the app, meaning applicants no longer have to be physically present at the police’s Vehicle Registration Center (Satpas) for most of the process.

SINAR digitizes every SIM application process, including the written exam, the psychological screening, health screening, and payment, but applicants must still pass the practical exam at the Satpas.

The renewal of a valid but expiring SIM, on the other hand, is totally digital as there is no practical exam requirement.

“For the online renewal of SIM A and SIM C, the applicant does not have to be present at the Satpas,” National Police Traffic Corps Grand Commissioner Jati said today.

Once approved, applicants will receive their new SIM by mail.

You can download SINAR, starting tomorrow, on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
