Security heightened after City Hall receives bomb threat

Authorities are tightening security in and around Jakarta City Hall today after a bomb threat was made earlier this morning.

Reports in the media say police, including bomb squads, are now searching the vicinity for possible explosives.

“It was confirmed that there was a bomb threat made at 9:15 am. It came in the form of a phone call,” said Gambir Police Chief AKBP Ida Ketut Grahananta Krisna Rendra, as quoted by Okezone today.

No further information has been released regarding the bomb threat.

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama reportedly left his office at 9:30 am even though he wasn’t scheduled to leave the office at that time.

“I don’t know, from yesterday [there have been bomb threats]. I don’t know, you should ask the police,” Ahok told the media.
