Police uncover money counterfeiters in Mampang

Wouldn’t it be be great if you could just print your own money? That’s what six criminals in Mampang, South Jakarta, were apparently thinking, – right until police busted their operation yesterday.

“The suspect rented a house in the area of Mampang and two days later started producing counterfeit money. They had just managed to make 194 Rp 100,000 bills,” said Mampang Police Chief Bambang Hari Wibowo yesterday, as quoted by Merdeka.

The evidence found by police included printers, laptops, ink, printing tools and 194 Rp 100,000 bills some of which had still not been cut out of the A4-sized paper they were printed on.

Police suspect the perpetrators of counterfeiting now because they were hoping to reap huge profits ahead of Ramadan, when people in desperate need of cash would be less likely to question their computer-printed forgeries.
