Petrol station on Jalan Gatot Subroto temporarily shut after 2 cars go up in flames

One of the most dangerous places for anything to catch on fire is a petrol station. So it was highly fortunate that nothing else exploded when two cars went up in flames at a Pertamina petrol station located next to the Patra Jasa building on Jalan Gatot Subroto this afternoon.

Witnesses said the fire started when a bucket containing oil placed in a trolley spontaneously combusted next to two parked cars, one a Honda Mobilio and the other a Toyota Innova.

“It appeared that the wind carried the fire and it spread to the parked cars,” said Makmur, a witness, as quoted by Detik today.

There were no reports of any casualties from the fire. The identities of the owners of the two cars are also unknown.

The petrol station is temporarily shut after the fire.

While the cause of the fire is not entirely clear at this point, it would definitely be wise for everyone to remember basic fire safety regulations at petrol stations. The simple act of turning off your car engine while filling up, refraining from smoking and using your mobile phone (yes, that’s one too!) could prevent dangerous fires like this one.
