A newborn in Indonesia may spend the rest of his life being prodded for cash back promos after he was named for one of the most popular e-payment systems in the country.
Gopay, a child born on Feb 18 in the Karyamukti village in Lampung province, was named after Go-Pay, the e-payment platform by ride hailing unicorn Go-Jek. The news was shared today on Go-Pay’s official Twitter account.

“Some time ago, a child was born named Gopay Allfarian CB. Like his name, hopefully Gopay will grow up to be a happy child who spreads #kebahagiaankecil (little bits of happiness) to all those around him,” the tweet said, making a reference to a social media campaign by the company.
As reported by Liputan 6, Gopay is the second child of father Anton and mother Aryanti, who are going to receive IDR500K (US$35) in Go-Pay credit each month for the next year as a gift from the company.
Anton hasn’t revealed why they picked such a peculiar name for their son, but promised to answer people’s queries about him in a video he’ll soon post on his Instagram.
Anton has, however, already shared some pictures of his adorable newborn.
As expected, many have commented on the photos to convey their best wishes for Gopay and his family amid the baby’s current viral fame, but some cheekily commented asking why the parents didn’t name their son Ovo or Dana — both of which are Go-Pay’s competitors in Indonesia.
Gopay is far from the first Indonesian baby to be named after a popular product. In 2017, an Indonesian couple named their son Pajero Sport after the Mitsubishi SUV, leading to the Japanese automakers giving the family baby supplies as a gift (but not, unfortunately, an actual Pajero).
Many Indonesians have also gone viral in the past due to their unique names, most notably Kentut (literally meaning “fart”), Tuhan (God) and Andy Go To School.
