The Depok Police arrested a man yesterday after he allegedly tried to commit suicide and kill his lover at the same time after she rejected his marriage proposal.
According to the police, the man, identified as 46-year-old Bogor resident H, went to propose to his girlfriend of four years, DS, at her home in Depok.
“The victim did not want to [get married] because the suspect is still unemployed,” said Depok Police Spokesman Firdaus, as quoted by Liputan 6 yesterday.
Angry that he was turned down, H allegedly took out a high-powered firecracker and threatened to kill both himself and DS with it.
“The suspect intended to blow up the firecracker that he was holding on to so that he and the victim could die in the victim’s home,” Firdaus said.
Fortunately H did not make good on his threat and the police soon arrived to arrest him and take him into custody. It’s not yet clear what criminal charges he would face.
