A man was arrested for online defamation in West Jakarta, police said, after he allegedly uploaded a video of a naked dentist on Twitter.

According to reports, the video, showing a completely naked female dentist walking around in public, was taken in Surabaya in early June. Footage of the incident went viral, with one tweet by the West Jakarta man at least partly responsible for widely spreading the video online. In the tweet, the suspect alleged that the dentist was “stressed out” because her husband and child died from COVID-19.

The Surabaya Police arrested the uploader of the video in West Jakarta on Saturday.

“The suspect has been charged with violation of Article 27 of the Information and Electronic Transactions Act [UU ITE],” Surabaya Police Crime Investigation Unit Deputy Chief Ardian Satrio Utomo said today.

The charge, for online defamation, ordinarily carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

“Only one person was arrested in West Jakarta. He was the uploader of the video,” Ardian added.

It’s not immediately clear if the suspect was the original uploader of the video or if he had shared an already circulating video. Either way, UU ITE states that the act of sharing defamatory content is punishable to the full extent of the law as if the culprit were the original uploader of said content.

As for the dentist’s mental state, the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) confirmed that she was under a lot of stress at the time of the incident, but denied that her family died from COVID-19. She is said to be recovering.
