The Jakarta Provincial Government is looking to get South Korea’s Jeju Provincial Government to help maximize the ecotourism potential of the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) just north off the coast of the capital’s mainland.

Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong paid a visit to City Hall yesterday to discuss the potential cooperation between the two provinces.

“We’ve talked about cooperation in the field of ecotourism, maximizing fisheries and environmental potentials for tourism,” said Won at City Hall yesterday, as quoted by Metro TV.

Won added that Jakarta wants the Thousand Islands to be transformed into something resembling Jeju Island’s famous ecotourism attractions, the Olle Trail.

“I will bring this matter to the experts and relevant companies. We will do it as soon as possible. We’re hoping that [the two governments] can cooperate well,” he said.
