GrabBike driver allegedly harassed Australian passenger by sending her porn and threatening texts

One of the unavoidable facets of using online motorcycle ride hailing services here is that drivers then gain knowledge of their customer’s phone number. Sadly, one partner driver for GrabBike allegedly used that knowledge to harass one of his passengers.

As reported in Merdeka, an unnamed Australian citizen recently filed a complaint to Grab about the behavior of one of their partner drivers. The driver, also unnamed, allegedly made advances on the Australian after having her as a passenger, which included sending her pornographic videos. After being rejected and finding out that he was reported to the company, the driver apparently sent her threatening messages like these:

“You have fired bullets, prepare to receive bullets from me. It’s not hard to find foreigners in Jakarta. Australians have killed police officers in Indonesia, now it’s time you die… you blew the war horn.”

“I received a phone call from the office… Don’t blame me… It’s not difficult to find non-natives. From the beginning you never replied, how hard is it to type “no”? Never read word NO/DON’T.

He also threatened the poor lady with black magic:

“Indonesia is a country full of magic. Let your friends and boss know that I have your hair. Indonesia may be a lawful country, but there is not one law that can incriminate magic users… there’d be no evidence.”

Grab confirmed that their partnership with the driver in question has been terminated.

“It went over the line, so we immediately terminated partnership after the culprit admitted to his actions,” said Country Head of Marketing for Grab Indonesia Kiki Rizki, as quoted by Suara on Monday.

The news has also reached the ears of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who called on the victim to take their case further.

“If it got to that then she should report this to the police,” Ahok said.

Update: Grab Indonesia Country Head of Marketing, Kiki Rizki, further detailed that the incident the company received the complaint from the passenger on August 22. After investigating into the allegations, Grab concluded that the driver was indeed in the wrong and that the company terminated working partnership with him as a result. Grab is committed to assist the victim should she decide to take the matter to the authorities.
