Proving that any surface can become a fluffy feather pillow when one is intoxicated, a Jakarta man was found dozing off with his head resting on his motorcycle while he was literally neck-deep in floodwater.
On Thursday, a reported combination of high tides and intense rainfall caused flooding in parts of Penjaringan, North Jakarta, forcing hundreds of families to temporarily flee their homes throughout the weekend.
Yet one man made national news when a video of him sleeping in the water in the early hours of Sunday, seemingly blissfully unaware that a disaster was unfolding around him, went viral online.

An extended version of the video showed the man eventually getting up and stumble-walking away from the location. A security officer at the scene said the man appeared to be “extremely intoxicated.”
Local police have confirmed the incident.
“Yes, it happened on Sunday morning on Pluit Utara Raya road,” Penjaringan Police Chief Imam Rifai said today.
The man was never identified by officers as he drove away from the location soon after the video was taken.
There have been a couple of major floods in the capital this year, most notably on New Year’s Day, during which the Greater Jakarta Area, as well as parts of Banten and West Java, saw the most intense rainfall since 2007. According to official data, 67 people were killed by floods and landslides while tens of thousands were evacuated from their homes.
