Businessman arrested for assault on model Vanesya Angelic because he thought she was a lesbian

Yani Mulyani, better known by her model stage name Vanesya Angelic, had a horrifying end to her night out on January 21.

The 24-year-old had just left Dragonfly nightclub on Jalan Gatot Subroto with her friend, Vindy Namirah, when they were followed by 44-year-old Rizal Irfan Shahab, who supposedly had his eyes on Vanesya the whole evening.

Rizal followed the two girls back to their kost in Pedurenan, South Jakarta before he allegedly committed a despicable act.

“The suspect (Rizal) smashed through the door of the kost and physically assaulted the two victims,” said Grand Commissioner Eko Hadi Santoso, head of the Mobile Investigation Sub-Directorate at the Jakarta Metro Police’s Public Crimes Investigation Directorate, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

Eko added that Rizal’s motive for the assault might have been borne out of jealousy, as the businessman thought that Vanesya had blown him off because she was romantically involved with Vindy.

Eko also explained that Rizal pulled Vanesya’s hair and hit her several times until she passed out. Vindy also suffered several injuries, including cuts on her right ear and near her right eye.

An unidentified member of Vindy’s family immediately reported the crime to the police and they managed to arrest Rizal at the kost’s parking lot as he was about to leave.

Rizal could face up to 5 years in prison for assault.
