Bogor wins WWF’s “We Love Cities” sustainability campaign contest

Well congrats, neighbor!

Bogor was yesterday named as the winner of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)’s “We Love Cities” sustainable city campaign. The satellite city beat out Indonesia’s other city representatives, Jakarta and Balikpapan, as well as numerous cities around the world.

Bogor didn’t win for its famous lush greeneries nor for its existing sustainability programs – the contest was essentially a people’s choice award. The winner was determined mostly by the number of votes and the sharing of ideas on how to make their cities more sustainable that people submitted online between April 26-June 26. This is because the idea for the contest is that “public engagement is key if cities are to succeed in achieving their sustainable development goals.” By that merit, Bogor won by a landslide victory of an unspecified margin.

But it’s also good to see that Bogor was also praised for “prioritizing energy efficiency and preserving its resources, and is shaping up to be a city worth watching out for!”

Hats off to Bogor for doing Indonesia proud. Hopefully their win will set the tone for citizens of other cities to care more about the sustainable futures of their hometowns.
