With Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat’s term coming to and end on Sunday, October 15, his successors, Governor-elect Anies Baswedan and Vice Governor-elect Sandiaga Uno, are set to be sworn in to lead the Jakarta Provincial Government the next day.

The pair will be appointed by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace at 4 pm on Monday before heading to City Hall for a handover ceremony. They also have something special in store for their supporters who can’t attend the celebrations at City Hall.

“There will be nobar (Indonesian acronym for “watch together”) events in villages (throughout Jakarta) using 15 goggles with virtual reality technology,” said Anies and Sandi campaign team’s spokesman Naufal Firman Yusrak, as quoted by Tirto during a press conference on Wednesday.

Anies and Sandi’s campaign team said that there will be three 360° cameras placed inside City Hall and 12 more placed outside it. The cameras will live stream an immersive experience of the ceremony to be watched using VR goggles located elsewhere.

It’s not yet clear if the live feed will only be streamed to the 15 VR goggles placed in the as-of-yet unnamed villages or if it will also be accessible to the general public using the Jakarta Provincial Government’s official video channels.

During the ceremony, there will be a symbolic handover of position from outgoing Governor Djarot to his successor Anies, followed later on by a one-hour speech by the latter.
