Update: As of 15:50 WIB, #SaveHajiLulung is the number one worldwide trending topic on Twitter!
Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Vice Chairman Abraham “Haji Lulung” Lunggana is being immortalized in Indonesian social media. Sadly for him, it’s for all the wrong reasons.
Right after the heated mediation session between the provincial government and the DPRD yesterday, Haji Lulung gave an interview to journalists. That’s when he produced this gaffe:
That’s right, Haji Lulung mistakenly referred to the UPS as USB. The UPS (uninterrupted power supply) is the very thing that Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is accusing the DPRD of marking up in the 2015 Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD) draft in an attempt at a corrupt cash grab.
Not long after, memes started to appear to poke fun at Haji Lulung’s UPS mistake.
Netizens then began to post sarcastic Haji Lulung jokes on Twitter with the hashtag #SaveHajiLulung, presumably to save the DPRD vice chairman from his own mouth.
The Haji Lulung jokes are very much similar to the famous Chuck Norris jokes, in which the actor was portrayed as some kind of invincible and fearsome entity.
At the time of writing, #SaveHajiLulung is the number two trending topic worldwide. Not bad for a man who couldn’t tell the difference between UPS and USB.
