90% of Depok’s City Council skipped work yesterday

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama issued severe warning to his civil servants not to skip the first day of work after the long Idul Fitri holiday yesterday, but no such task master apparently exists in the satellite city of Depok.

Out of the 50 legislators working for the Depok City Council, only 5 of them bothered showing up to work yesterday.

Depok City Council Chairman Hendrik Tangke Allo, one of the few members who was actually in Depok City Hall yesterday, defended his colleagues, kind of, telling Okezone that they might still be enjoying their holidays “…or perhaps they were already on their way home from their hometowns.”.

Hendrik said he hopes fewer members of the City Council skip today, but he probably didn’t get his hopes up.
