The Tangerang City Police have identified three people and arrested two of them for the suspected murder of a Grab driver last week. The story made headlines nationwide after the driver’s son’s online plea for help finding him while he was still missing went viral.

The victim, identified by his initials JST, had been missing since last Monday after he took a ride order from North Jakarta. His body was found floating in a river in Tangerang on Wednesday.

The Tangerang Police say three suspects, identified by their initials FF, REH, and RLP — at least two of whom are still teenagers — made the order with the clear intention of killing JST and stealing his car.

“Their motivation was that they wanted the car. They already had a buyer,” Tangerang Police Chief Sabilul Alif told reporters today, as quoted by Kompas.

Sabilul added that the suspects were going to sell the car for IDR30-40 million (US$2,023-2,698) and split the money between them.

However, their buyer never showed up for the transaction and they ditched the car in Tangerang. The city’s police then arrested FF on Friday and REH today, while RLP is still on the run.

While the charges against FF and REH have not been announced, the police did say there was a strong reason to believe that JST’s murder was premeditated, which is a crime punishable by life imprisonment or the death penalty.
