Greater North Jakarta
Located closest to the sea, North Jakarta includes many of the capital’s oldest settlements, harkening back to its days as a regional hub of shipping and sea trade. In addition to the crumbling colonial buildings you can find in Kota Tua, North Jakarta also includes the ports of Tanjung Priok and historic Sunda Kelapa. North Jakarta has a reputation for hiding some of Jakarta’s wilder nightlife establishments, including the infamous Alexis Hotel, but it is also home to the Ancol entertainment district, an area that includes beaches and a theme park which is popular for families to visit during weekends and holidays. Kelapa Gading is North Jakarta’s most affluent residential area and is well known for its shopping centers and plethora of food options. The subdistricts of North Jakarta include Cilincing, Koja, Kelapa Gading, Tanjung Priok, Pademangan and Penjaringan.
