GREATER CENTRAL JAKARTA

Although Central Jakarta is the smallest of Jakarta’s five cities, it is arguably the most iconic and important as it houses Istana Merdeka and other national government buildings as well as landmarks such as the National Monument, Istiqlal Mosque and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout. Some of Jakarta’s most affluent shopping centers, including Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, can be found in Central Jakarta, as well as luxury hotels such as the Mandarin Oriental and The Grand Hyatt. Central Jakarta also contains the affluent neighborhood of Menteng, the trade center of Tanah Abang, and Kemayoran, which is home to the annual Jakarta Fair. Other subdistricts in Central Jakarta include Cempaka Putih, Johar Baru, Senen and Sawah Besar.
