Olga Syahputra is NOT in the photo. Photo: Twitter:@abangbily
Celebrity Olga Syahputra’s death shocked many in the nation. At the risk of disrespecting the dead, I’m going to go ahead and say that some reactions to his death have been completely over the top and downright misleading, like how the photo above was misused to honor Olga.
The dead person in that photo is an 11-year-old Chinese boy, Liang Yaoyi, who died from a brain tumor in June 2014. Before he died, he asked his mother if he could donate his organs to others in need. An hour after his death, his kidneys and liver were harvested for transplant.
But if we’re talking about disrespecting the dead, Twitter account @abangbily takes the cake. Though it isn’t a verified account, it has 170 thousand followers because it supposedly belongs to Billy Syahputra, brother to the late Olga. But, regardless of who owns the account, what the person did was outrageous and unforgivable.
On March 28, the day Olga died, @abangbily posted this photo:
Was @abangbily trying to score some cheap sympathy points in the wake of Olga’s death? Or was he trying to paint Olga as a man so legendary and important that even doctors in Singapore bowed in the presence of his dead body?
Whoever @abangbily is, that person must have absolutely no shame whatsoever if he chose to disrespect Liang Yaoyi’s sacrifice in this way. Talentless Indonesian celebrities should come down from their cloud of deluded self-importance.
