The annual Java Jazz Festival (JJF), one of the most prominent jazz festivals in the region, is returning to the Indonesian capital for its 16th edition from Feb. 28 to Mar. 1. Jazz enthusiasts are in for a treat this year, as the festival promises quite a diverse set of performers.
The festival first announced the first and second phases of its lineup late last year, which already boasted jazz’s heavyweights from Indonesia and abroad. These include pop-jazz singer-songwriter Ardhito Pramono, American singer-songwriter Ari Lennox, and British singer-songwriter Bruno Major.
Headlining the festival in 2020 are The Jacksons — which consists of the legendary Jackson brothers Jackie, Tito, and Marlon — and American singer-songwriter Omar Apollo. As both acts fall under the festival’s special shows category, additional tickets will be required.
Festival organizers announced the latest batch of performers yesterday, which include jazz drummer Benny Mustafa N Jongens and composer Dwiki Dharmawan feat. Nadin Amizah.
Additionally, American jazz group Ron King Big Band, led by renowned trumpet player/composer Ron King, will be performing for the 16th consecutive time at the festival.
This year’s festival will carry the phrase “Redeem Yourself Through Music” as its theme, based on the idea that everyone needs an escape from the things they go through in their lives.
Tickets are available on Java Jazz Festival’s official website, starting at IDR775,000 (US$56.70) for a daily pass and IDR1,875 million (US$137.2) for a three-day pass. Special tickets are available for IDR250,000 (US$18.30) for Omar Apollo’s set on Sunday, while The Jacksons’ show on Saturday is priced at IDR375,000 (US$27.43).
