Noor Parida, a woman whose face is familiar to millions of Indonesians, especially in the ‘90s, has sadly passed away this morning at the age of 66.
Most Indonesians who grew up during that time would recognize Noor as the friendly smiling face that regularly graced our television screens. Noor was the woman who appeared at the end of the iconic ‘RCTI Oke’ bumper for Indonesian TV station RCTI below, smiling as she gave a thumb up to the camera.
RCTI confirmed her death in a tweet today.
OkeMin dan seluruh keluarga besar RCTI turut berduka cita atas meninggalnya Noor Parida😇

“The entire RCTI extended family mourns the death of Noor Parida. The figure of Noor Parida is embedded in the minds of Indonesians, as an iconic character at a floating market in South Kalimantan [through] an ‘RCTI Oke’ thumbs up bumper at the time,” the tweet reads.
Noor Parida reportedly worked as a snack seller in Banjarmasin and lived with several of her children and grandchildren. Rahmi Yatun, her youngest child, said that her mother had undergone treatment at home due to cough and hypertension in the last two weeks before her passing.
Noor’s passing came not long after the death of another influential-yet-obscure figure from our Indonesian childhoods, that of Prabawati Sukarta, the Indonesian voice of Doraemon character Shizuka.
