Jakarta’s music scene is vast and varied, with tastes running from traditional Indonesian genres such as dangdut to emo-inflected alternative rock. Indie bands have ardent fans amongst Jakarta music lovers and we are proud to count ourselves amongst them. A city like Jakarta, with all of its problems and complexities, is a breeding ground for really great music. Another big aspect of Jakarta’s music scene is the capital’s club crazy crowd’s passion for electronic dance music and hip hop. Some might say there are too many DJs in Jakarta, but the capital has produced many a great deck spinner who knows how to whip a crowd into a dance party. And while the Indonesian capital may not attract nearly as many international bands to our shores as it should, big name international DJs regularly venture to the Big Durian in order to play at Jakarta’s best clubs.
