Marvel and its parent company Disney have been putting some serious superhero muscle into the marketing of their movies in Indonesia recently, including casting Indonesian celebrities as local “ambassadors” for their comic book blockbusters.
First, they made actress Luna Maya Indonesia’s “official” Black Widow ahead of the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Now they’ve picked actor and presenter Daniel Mananta to fill Paul Rudd’s tiny shoes as Indonesia’s very own Ant-Man.
“Two weeks ago I met with a Disney representative, and while we were chatting I asked to be Ant-Man Indonesia,” Daniel said today as quoted by Tribunnews.
The former MTV VJ said he could relate to the diminutive superhero, who will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe premier in his self-titled movie set to be released later this month.
“Ant-Man’s playful personality is so me. I’m also a fan of the actor, Paul Rudd. He is lively and funny,” Daniel said.
In “Ant-Man”, Paul Rudd portrays a thief who gets his hands on a supersuit capable of shrinking him down to insect size and giving him a host of other superpowers. He is forced to use his newfound abilities to protect his family and the world.
Although the Indonesian release date has not been announced, “Ant-Man” is premiering in most other countries around the middle of July.
We’re sure Daniel will make a good Ant-Man because… well… his last name is almost an anagram of Ant-Man. So he’s got that going for him.
