As the name indicates, this music festival taking place in North Jakarta’s Ecopark Ancol features a somewhat random but otherwise impressive collection of international and local acts, with English garage rock legends The Libertines leading the lineup alongside American pop punk band All Time Low and alt R&B artist Gallant. Witness stories of survival and strength at House of the Unsilenced (Ends Sunday)
Featuring the works of sixteen artists, writers and performers, along with survivors of sexual violence from various backgrounds, the goal of this exhibition is to explore the ways that art and literature can become a medium for survivors to open up the eyes of society, break their silence, seek justice and achieve recovery. But what is achieved and sacrificed when telling these stories? What does it mean to turn trauma into art? How does art change the way they see themselves and the world? Those of you seeking to blow some steam with a few belly laughs can check out these two international comedy acts coming to Jakarta this weekend. On Friday there’s Deepak Chandran, a rising star who has quickly become a regular headliner across Asia. His unique style involves observational comedy with a hint of politics, as well as reflections on his background and jabs at middle-class inanity. On Saturday there’s a family-friendly performance by Australian comedy-magician Adrian Saw, who blends comedy, sleight of hand, psychology and audience participation to perform hilarious and impossible illusions in an intimate experience.
