Indonesian jazz piano phenom Joey Alexander earns his 3rd Grammy Nomination

Last year, 13-year-old Indonesian jazz prodigy Joey Alexander made history by becoming the youngest Grammy nominee in a jazz category ever with nominations for best improvised jazz solo and best jazz instrumental album. Although he didn’t take home one of those golden statues, he did receive a standing ovation for his performance at the awards ceremony.

Proving that last year was definitely not a one-off, Joey’s name has once again appeared on the list of nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards, receiving his third overall nomination and his second in the best improvised jazz solo category for “Countdown”, a track off of his latest album which also bears the same name.

Born in Bali, Joey was recognized as a shooting star by jazz greats in Indonesia and was eventually given the opportunity to take his career to the next level by working with musical legends in New York City. In the last year, he dropped a highly successful first album which hit the top of the US jazz charts and performed at the White House. You can read (and hear) how he made it from Bali to the heights of global jazz fame before becoming a teenage in our multi-media profile.
