A Vibrant Evening of Dance by The Junior Company, Dutch National Ballet

Established in 2013, The Junior Company is the stepping stone for young dancers from the national ballet academy to The Dutch National Ballet, The Netherlands’ largest ballet company.

Their shows in Jakarta and Semarang, under the theme of Unboxing Ballet, will showcase a combination of the Dutch National Ballet repertoire: the classical and popular 19th century ballet tradition, highlights of 20th century ballet, and exciting creations by choreographers who are blazing new trails around the world. Their show is sure to delight both die-hard ballet fans and first-time audiences.

Friday, Jan 31 – Saturday, Feb 1 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (The Jakarta Art Building), Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, starting from 7.30pm. Free entry, ticket registration opens from 6:30 to 7:30, served on a first come, first serve basis.

 

Jakarta Block Party

Five genres, five stages, one night: the first edition of Jakarta Block Party will transform the bustling SCBD business district into a full-on party district this weekend. Dance to the hottest tunes by performers across different genres, from hip hop, electronic, dangdut koplo, even K-pop.

Headliners including Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies, South Korean rapper Keith Ape (of 2015 hit It G Ma fame), American musicians RAC and Goldroom, among others. Local performers including rapper Ramengvrl, singer Adrian Khalif, electronic music group Midnight Quickie with Kara Chenoa, as well as dangdut DJ duo Feel Koplo. Saturday, Feb 1 at The Pallas, Fable, Swillhouse, Lucy in the Sky, and The Goods Diner at Fairgrounds SCBD, South Jakarta. Tickets starting from IDR420,000++/person (early entry), available on Tiketapasaja.

 

Rasasastra: Beginnings — Book Series Launch

Rasasastra, a Jakarta-based creative collective, will begin their series of events and exhibition to mark the launch of their book series this Saturday. The event, which is described as “the night of sensory exploration”, will consist of the book launch itself, a spoken word poetry by guest poets and open mic, artist panel talk, as well as live art and music performances. Saturday, Feb 1 at Kopikalyan Cikajang, South Jakarta, from 4.30pm onwards. Art exhibition and market will be open until Feb. 7. Free entry, more information is available on Rasasastra’s Instagram page.

 

Weekend Things Vol. 02

What’s better than shopping at the beginning of the month? Come to the second edition of Weekend Things at Nuraga Space, an alternative space above Tanamera Coffee Ahmad Dahlan. There will be selections of preloved items, ranging from clothings and collectible items such as toys and books. DJs and local musicians will also drop by to entertain guests at the event, the schedule of which can be found here. Feeling creative? Looking for a creative way to spend your weekend? Learn how to paint peacock with watercolor artist Jongkie this Saturday. In this workshop, you will learn about the watercolor mixing technique, detailing, texturing, and all you need to finish the artwork.
