Ahok on clients of pricey celebrity prostitutes: “Who else if not government officials?”

The local news media is once again working itself into a frenzy over yet another celebrity prostitution scandals after actress Nikita Mirzani and former Miss Indonesia contestant Puty Revita were apprehended during an undercover operation at the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski last Thursday. Much of the heated speculation is over the prices the two ladies supposedly set for their services, ranging from Rp 50 million to Rp 120 million for three hours of their services.

One topic that has gotten very little attention from the press, however, is who were the customers willing to pay those kinds of sky high prices for a few hours of high-class lovin’? Fortunately Governor Ahok decided to share his opinions on the matter with the public, mirroring what many were already thinking.

“Who else could pay for something so expensive as Rp 65 million if not government officials?” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Tempo.

Well obviously there are a lot of other people who could potentially pay those prices – there are obviously more than a few ridiculously wealthy businessmen in Jakarta. So why would Ahok specifically mention government officials?

Perhaps it’s because corrupt government officials are known for brazenly blowing their dirty money on ridiculous items such as lime-green Lamborghinis (for example).

At any rate, we wish news outlets here would spend a little less time going over the details of celebrity sex scandals over and over again and a little more time investigating Jakarta’s rampant corruption.
