Celebrate Loewy’s 9th anniversary with Klingande (Friday night)

Loewy, one of the first of a new wave of bar/restaurants in Jakarta to take cocktails seriously, has managed to survive an increasingly crowded market to remain one of the Indonesian capital’s most perennially popular nightlife spots after nine years (an eternity in terms of Jakarta’s fickle F&B scene). To celebrate their big 9th anniversary, Loewy is flying in French DJ Cédric Steinmyller, better known as Klingade, for a special performance on Friday night. Klingade is know for his unique style of tropical house that prominently features acoustic instruments and he’ll be bringing along his own saxophonist and violinist to help enhance his beats all night long.

If you know anything about Bali’s restaurant scene then you’ve probably heard of Cuca, considered one of the most critically-acclaimed and innovative eateries on the Island of the Gods at the moment, serving elegantly layered small bites that rewrite the rules of what tapas can be. Cuca’s chef, Kevin Cherkas, will be coming to the capital to cook up some of his most renowned dishes at Jakarta’s Cassis Kitchen such as Smoked Butterfish served with beetroot yoghurt, zucchini pickles and parsley crumbs) and his famed Bali Breakfast dish that looks just like sunnyside up eggs but tastes like a heavenly dessert. One of Asia’s biggest MMA promotions, ONE Championship, is returning to the Jakarta Convention Centre this Saturday with ONE: Total Victory. The The title match will be a battle between former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan and Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of the Philippines. Tickets start at Rp 75k. We may be mortal enemies with Vice Indonesia (just kidding, we love you guys!) but they’ve also organized a cool cinema event for this weekend. This Saturday and Sunday you can head to Kinosaurus in Kemang to watch some of the greatest B-movies to come out of Indonesia during the New Order era, including Ratu Ilmu Hitam and Pengabdi Setan (which is getting a remake soon courtesy of director Joko Anwar, who will also be doing a Q&A at the screenings.
