Hear the real musical range of the recorder at this concert at Erasmus Haus (Friday)

The recorder doesn’t get nearly as much respect as it should as a musical instrument (probably due to their popularity as a learning instrument for young students) but professional musicians can evoke some impressive sounds out of the humble woodwind.  This Friday you can catch a solo recital by Erik Bosgraaf, a musician from the Netherlands considered to be one of the world’s most virtuosic recorder players as well as one of the most adventurous through his incorporation of improvisation, jazz and even electronics into his performances. He will be introduced by Thiemo Wind, a respected musicologist. Performance starts at 7:30 pm and entrance is free. For more info

After the success of last year’s first, the 2nd Women’s March Jakarta is set to hit the streets of the capital on March 3. To raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause, the march’s organizers will be holding a garage sale this weekend at Kinosaurus in Kemang that will feature a variety of goods including pre-loved items from famous public feminist figures. There will also be a screening and discussion about the South Korean film “Cart” about a group of employees at a retail supermarket who band together when the contract workers are laid off. Dance in a sea of white at Sensation (Saturday)

Started 18 years ago in Amsterdam, Sensation is now an international dance event that takes place at stadiums and arenas around  the globe. This’ll be the the first Sensation event to take place in Jakarta and it promises to bring the same high-quality production values and  amazing visuals that are the event’s signature, as well as plenty of  brilliant beats courtesy of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (the first duo to reach #1 on DJ Mags Top 100 list), Sensation mainstay Mr. White and many more. FYI a big part of Sensation is having everybody dressed in all white (or at the very least 80% white) and they are very serious about enforcing that dress code. Tickets start at Rp 800k.
