Witness the power of pop rock giants Paramore at their 2nd Jakarta concert (Friday night)




It’s been seven years since American rock band Paramore visited Jakarta, but Hayley Williams, Taylor York and Zac Farro will be back in the Big Durian again soon as part of their international ‘Tour Four’ concert series promoting their fifth album, ‘After Laughter’ (which made plenty of critics best-of-the-year lists for 2017).  Check out our preview for more info.

Unmasked Poetry Open Mic, probably Jakarta’s best and most inclusive poetry event, is back this year with a special event in honor of Chinese New Year called “IMLEKAN”. The show will be opened by a Betawi dance performance, accompanied by Lenong musicians and, of course… Barongsai dragon dancers. The Unmasked crew will be joined by guest poets Saras Dewi, Juta and Michel Richard. Audience members can register to read their poems as well. Event is free and open to the public but you need to sign up for a seat at www.indonesiakaya.com first. Starts at 3PM.

Celebrate the CNY holiday by taking a walking tour of Jakarta’s Chinatown (Sun)

The area of West Jakarta considered the capital’s Chinatown is full of colorful shops, hidden-gem restaurants and fascinating history, but it can be also be pretty hard to navigate, especially on your first visit. For those interested in getting the lowdown on Chinatown over this Chinese New Year long weekend, this well-timed walking tour (which is also taking place on Feb 24) should be ideal for you.  In their words: Explore the hidden alleys to immerse your self with the daily routines of the locals. Dive into the films of Japanese auteur Shohei Imamura at this Secret Movie session (Saturday)

Shohei Imamura, best known for his seminal Tokyo Story (1953), is one of Japan’s greatest directors and the only one to have ever won two prestigious Palme d’Or awards at Cannes. All this month, the Jakarta Cinema Club is exploring his work and so for Saturday’s session they’ll be screening a secret selection from Shohei’s filmography and follow it up with a casual discussion. Hear R&B star Iyaz at Immigrant (Saturday night)
