Undoubtedly this weekend’s most talked about event (partly due to the controversy stirred up by Islamist groups that are threatening to protest it this year), Djakarta Warehouse Project is finally ready to go off this Friday and Saturday. Billed as one of Asia’s biggest EDM festivals and featuring an all-star line-up of international heavy hitters including  Marshmellow, Hardwell, Steve Aoki and Tiesto (as well as homegrown heroes including viral sensation Rich Chigga), this year’s DWP is the place to be this weekend for anybody in Jakarta or the region who considers themselves a true fan of electronic dance music.  For more info and tickets

Get wild with WLDRNS and some awesome indie bands (Saturday night)

If you’re not a club kid, there are a couple of good spots for some indie music counter-programming in Jakarta this weekend. One of our picks is Interlocal taking place at Paviliun 28 this Saturday night. For Act II of this promising gig series they’re bringing in Swedish dream pop band WLDRNS (Wilderness), a fitting match for the lush haunting sounds of local indie acts Lightcraft and Secret Meadow.

So the holidays are almost here and you haven’t even started your gift shopping yet? Well one idea is to head down to the Pelaspas building in Dharmawangsa this Sunday where you can not only get a brilliant brunch at restaurants such as Taco Local and Bao Ji but also find tons of cool unique gifts items at this monthly market featuring independent retailers selling a wide variety of organic goods lovingly made by local artisans.

Another alternative to DWP this weekend (or for those of you who still need a 3rd day of partying after DWP ends) local collective De La House’s Sunday Block Party in Kemang promises to be a funky fun time for all this Sunday, rain or shine. For more info and tickets.

Rock out with Devil Electric at Superbad! (Sunday night)

Jakarta’s best indie showcase night is back again this month with headlining heavy metal band from Melbourne Devil Electric as well as Bandung rock band Sigmun. Superbad! takes places at The Jaya Pub in Thamrin and usually gets going by 9pm (though you’ll wanna get there earlier to get a good seat).
