Soak up the soulful sounds of The Göksel Yilmaz Ensemble at Erasmus Huis (Saturday afternoon)

The Göksel Yilmaz Ensemble performs songs from Turkey, Syria and Lebanon like we bet you’ve never heard before here in Jakarta. Explore “Dunia Maia” at this massive musical production at TIM (Saturday)

That’s right, there are two intriguing local musicals being staged this weekend. “Dunia Maia” is billed as a “colossal musical drama” put on by Universitas Pelita Harapan’s (UPH) Art Division. The story is about a little girl named Maia who isn’t able to accept reality after the death of her sister and creates an imaginary world named Semosimesta. The production is the passion project of around 350 UPH students and alumnus, who collaborated with professionals like music director Andreas Arianto and electronic sound designer Aria Prayog to create a performance incorporating a live orchestra and digital video mapping. Get down with world #1 DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike at the Shivering Ground dance music festival (Friday night)

Ramadan starts next week so if you like to party hard you better go really hard this weekend. A good place to start would be Friday night’s Shivering Ground dance music festival.
