5 Cool Things To Do in Jakarta This Weekend (Feb 3-5)

Catch Jakarta Governor Ahok at massive (and free) “Gue 2” concert in support of him in Senayan (Saturday)

With the Jakarta governor’s election less than two weeks away, supporters of the incumbent, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, are holding a huge concert event tomorrow at Ex Driving Range Senayan (located on Jalan Sudirman, near fX mall) which promises to feature a dense lineup of amazing musical talents and celebrity appearances (just look at that list above!). Ahok himself has promised to make an appearance at the concert and admission is free to the public (guests are asked not to wear clothing featuring political party attributes).

Get some much needed magic and laughs at Mad About Comedy

After the last few weeks we’ve had, we could all use a good laugh. Well comedy and magic will be in ample supply at this Mad About Comedy event at the American Club tonight, featuring Scottish comedian Bruce Fummey and funnyman magician Justin Rivera from America. For more info.

Party with fellow urban adventurers on an old school pinisi ship in Sunda Kelapa Harbour

The iDiscover City Walks app is all about helping city explorers find cool stuff off the beaten track. They’ve recently created some cool maps to help you find all the hidden historical wonders in Jakarta’s Kota Tua and to celebrate their launch here they’re holding a party on top of a classic pinisi ship in Sunda Kelapa Harbour this Saturday from 3pm-6pm featuring food, drinks and live music. For more info on iDiscover City Walks and their launch event.

Check out the cream of Jakarta’s rap scene at Queenshead (Sat Night) You might not know this, but Jakarta’s got some damn talented rappers spitting fire besides Rich Chigga (and no, we’re not talking about Young Lex). Creative collective Cul de Sac (try saying that three times fast) are among those at the forefront of the scene, and they’re coming with their friends for a “Rap Show Thingy” at Queens Head in Kemang this Saturday featuring first timers and veterans busting some sweet rhymes, as well as some excellent DJ’s to close out the show. Groove to some sweet beats at The Pallas (Friday night)

Have you been to The Pallas yet? It’s the swanky new venue that’s taken over the grand space formerly filled by Potato Head Garage in SCBD’s Fairground building. If not, this would be a good night to go, with hometown hero DJ Dipha Barus putting on one of his impeccably tight sets and the dynamic duo of Kimokal sure to delight with their eclectically mad mixes.
