Art Stage Singapore has been one of the city-state’s best showcases of modern and contemporary art for quite a while, and now they’re bringing the stage to Jakarta. The inaugural Art Stage Jakarta is taking place this weekend at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel and will feature works from the renowned private collections of six Indonesian collectors spread over 600 square meters. Also participating in the fair will be 20 Indonesian art galleries as well as leading international galleries from cities such as Paris, Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Let famed soul singer Peabo Bryson take you to a whole new world (Saturday)

Even if you’re not familiar with renowned singer Peabo Bryson, you’re almost certainly familiar with his most famous song, “A Whole New World” from the Disney classic “Aladdin”. Though he’ll be forever linked to that magic carpet duet, Bryson has also had a seriously successful soul career spanning four decades, which is why this concert is part of his “40 Years of Magic World Tour”. He’ll be joined here by famed Indonesian chanteuse Raisa, who we’re sure will sing a lovely Jasmine to his Aladdin. Sat 8pm, The Hall at Senayan City, tickets Rp 950,000 – Rp 3,450,000. Bali’s hottest nightclub comes to Jakarta with the opening of Jenja (Friday)

If you’re at all familiar with Bali’s nightlife scene, you’ll know that Jenja is one of the most happening nightclubs on the Island of the Gods at the moment. Well, now the island vibe is coming to Jakarta with the soft opening of Jenja in Cilandak Town Square. We’re hoping it will be able to recreate the original’s Bali chic style and lush sound system effects. If you can’t make it to the opening night, you can also come on Saturday when they’ll be hosting noted German DJ Oliver Huntemann.

Get on your toes to take in the Western Australian Ballet’s “Once”

There aren’t a ton of opportunities for fans of ballet to see performances in Jakarta, but this weekend will see the renowned Western Australian Ballet company come to the capital for the first time in 20 years as part of their latest international tour. Their show, “Once”, features nine works ranging in style from classical to modern to neo-classical ballet in the first act, and an excerpt from “Cinderella” in the second. The renowned dance company will be taking the stage at Taman Ismail Marzuki’s Teater Jakarta on Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 1pm. Tickets start at Rp 360,000. Get lost in the “Luminous Landscapes” of artist Arkiv Vilmansa

Definitely one of the hottest artists in Indonesia at the moment, Arkiv Vilmansa earned his fame in the art world for his striking paintings and sculptures utilizing his signature style, which combines bold lines, vibrant colors and sinisterly eyeless figures. You can definitely see a maturation of his style in his latest exhibition, “Luminous Landscapes”, in which he tackles more abstract subjects then he has in the past, with mesmerizing results. The exhibition at Ruci Art Space is running until September 4.
