Millions of children in Eastern Indonesia do not have access to quality books and illiteracy rates remain high. But Taman Bacaan Pelangi (Rainbow Reading Gardens) is helping to change that. Since 2009, this fantastic charity has been working hard to build libraries in remote parts of the country and more recently they’ve started implementing free after-school literacy programs (you can read more about their amazing work here).
Earlier this month, TBP reached a huge milestone by opening their 100th library at the Nangapanda 1 Catholic Primary School in Ende, Flores.

As amazing of an achievement as this is, TBP is not slowing down (in fact they already opened up libraries #101, #102, #103 and #104 this month too!). But they are going to take one night to properly celebrate their big 100th milestone with all of their supporters in Jakarta and we hope you can come as well.
On Wednesday, September 26 Taman Bacaan Pelangi will be holding a charity dinner at Por Que No, the hip rooftop tapas bar in Menteng, to celebrate all the amazing work they’ve accomplished so far. They’re promising an “unforgettable evening of gourmet dishes, libations and entertainment”. The musical guest for the evening will be beloved folk duo Bonita & The Hus Band and there will be a charity auction as well.
Tickets for the dinner are Rp 400,000 per person and all proceeds will go towards funding TBP’s basic literacy program in Flores (if you can’t make it but would like to donate directly to the program you can do so via their crowdfunding campaign on KitaBisa).
