A woman, 38, surnamed Chu, and her mother, 68, surnamed Poon, have been in the hospital since a back tyre exploded on a Citybus en route to Tung Chung on Sunday night.
The two were sent “hurtling through the air”, reports the Standard.
Chu’s 5-year-old daughter also sustained an injury to her eye in the accident.
Chu and Poon were seated next to each other when the tyre burst through the floor of the bus, fracturing her leg.
Chu said she heard a loud explosion and saw a hole in the floor of the bus, and was unable to get out of the way before her leg slipped into the gap.
Poon suffered injuries to her foot and her face, and said she was covered in smoke and dust when the tyre burst.
Chu may need to wear a cast for six months, and isn’t sure if she would be able to keep her job.
Citybus apparently told her that they may not cover all her medical costs if she went to a private hospital. In a touching display of sincerity and remorse, they visited her once and gave her a fruit basket.
Does Hallmark make “Sorry our bus’ tyre expoded and fractured your leg!” cards?
