A car was spotted driving down a bicycle lane in Tseung Kwan O, startling pedestrians who narrowly managed to avoid the vehicle.

A 16-second clip, posted Monday, shows the black Lexus heading slowly down the middle of a two-way cycling path on Chi Shin Street. A biker, who was cycling just in front of the vehicle, turned onto the road right before the car closed in.

Upon reaching a pedestrian crossing, the driver swerved hesitantly to the right to avoid hitting the track’s safety posts, just meters away from a woman with a young child crossing the road. Startled by the approaching car, the two scurried out of harm’s way as the vehicle drove back onto the road.

The video, posted to Facebook Monday afternoon, has amassed almost 3,000 likes and over 440 comments.

A Google Street View of the area suggests that the car might have turned into the bike path near Bauhinia Garden, a housing estate.

A member of a Facebook group for Tsz Wan Shan residents said the black car in the video had also been seen parking illegally at a bus stop, sharing a photo of a vehicle with an identical license plate number.

Police said that they are aware of the video and are following up on the incident.

According to the Transport Department, all road users except cyclists are prohibited from entering cycle lanes, which are indicated by traffic signs and road markings.
