A Hong Kong woman found her missing husband-to-be dead in the early hours of today after tracking his phone’s GPS location to a spot near Hung Hom Pier.

The woman, surnamed Chan, and her 35-year-old boyfriend, surnamed Chung, were supposed to meet up at around 6pm yesterday. When Chan called her fiancé but failed to receive an answer, she initially thought Chung was busy at work, Oriental Daily reports.

However, six hours later, she became worried upon not receiving a response from Chung, and tracked his phone’s GPS location to Hung Hom Pier at around 12am. She found the 35-year-old unconscious in the driver’s seat of his parked car and called emergency services.

Chung was rushed to the hospital but declared dead shortly afterwards. The 35-year-old reportedly had a congenital heart disease, and had undergone surgery to correct it as a child. Police have said they are not ruling out that Chung’s death was related to his disease; a cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy.

Oriental Daily reports that a couple and their young son passed by Chung’s car twice yesterday — at 6pm and 9pm — and saw him unconscious inside the vehicle, but thought he was taking a nap. The couple returned to the scene at 1am out of curiosity and apparently blamed themselves for not calling the police.

A police investigation is underway.
