(Video) Shoplifter takes HK$300 jacket from shop, gets into a fight with three shop clerks

Four women caused a scene in a busy street in Yau Ma Tei yesterday afternoon after one of them reportedly stole a jacket from a store.

According to Apple Daily, a woman in her 20s took a HK$300 (US$38) jacket from a clothing shop on Jordan Road at around 1pm on Tuesday, put on the item, and walked out of the store.

Three female shop clerks realised what happened and went to look for the thief. The trio found the alleged shoplifter in a McDonald’s restaurant and tried to retrieve the merchandise, nearly ripping her top in the process.

The ensuing confrontation then spilled out on to the sidewalk where, during the busy lunch hour rush, the three shop clerks challenged the alleged shoplifter, who began to shout “help me!”

In video posted by the newspaper, the shoplifter is seen writhing on the floor — without the jacket — trying to fight off the three shop clerks, amidst the contents of her tote bag, which are strewn across the sidewalk.

A crowd can be seen gathering to watch the spectacle.  Some intervene, telling the clerks to call the police.

After breaking free and grabbing her wallet and her phone, the shoplifter gets up and makes a run for it.

Police confirmed that a 30-year-old female clerk from the clothing store reported the case to the police around 1pm yesterday. No arrests have been made.
